Please note: The ADO.NET Data Services Online Service (Also known as the Astoria Online Service) is an experimental technology that is still under development. This Online Service is based on the prototype codebase that was released in September 2007. The development team would very much appreciate any feedback you have about the technology. While we will work to keep the service up and running and to inform you about upcoming changes to the service, because this is an experimental service issues will probably occur and the service may be unavailable at any time; it might even cease to exist some day. So if the service isn’t working at the moment, we ask that you check our blog and try again later.

Create Your Own Read/Write Online Data Service:

Create Online Data Service
Click here to design your own experimental ADO.NET Data Service (also known as Astoria) based on the Project "Astoria" prototype, hosted by us.  To get started, signin to your passport account and click the 'Create Online Data Service' link above.  Each passport user can create one ADO.NET Data Service.  Each data service has a maximum capacity of 100MB.  Since this is an experimental service under active development, there may be periods where your service is unavailable.  We welcome and appreciate feedback on the service and any associated issues you encounter.

Sample Online Data Services:

In order to make it easier to start experimenting with Astoria online data services, we put together a few sample data-sets and exposed them as Astoria services. The links below will take you to pointers to URIs that are the data-service entry points for each of the sample data services; these services support the same full URI syntax and semantics, as well as payload formats, described in the reference document Using Microsoft Codename Astoria.

All of these examples are read-only to make sure the data in them stays as originally created.

Northwind Data Service
Northwind is a classic database example, so we had to make it part of the sample set for the Astoria online service.

AdventureWorks Data Service
AdventureWorks is the new sample database that comes with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and has a rich schema and a lot of data.

Encarta Data Service
The Microsoft® Encarta® team was nice enough to let us use a subset of their Encarta Encyclopedia article base and expose it as a data service.

TagSpace Data Service
The folks at Microsoft TagSpace were also kind enough to let us borrow their data (without user information, of course); this data service exposes the Tags, Tagged Items, Bookmarks and the relationships between them.
